Past Displays - Books: National Library Week

View previous Taylor Memorial Library book displays.

In the mid-1950s, research showed that Americans were spending less time with books in favor of radios and TVs. Concerned that Americans were reading less, the American Library Association and American Book Publishers formed the National Book Committee. This committee would create the first National Library Week in 1958 to celebrate libraries and librarians, as well as how they strengthen the local reading scene.

This year's theme is "Ready, Set, Library!" This theme reminds us that in our always-online world, libraries allow us to connect with others, learn new skills, and become inspired.
